Twenty five additional highway resurfacing schemes are set to go ahead if Caerphilly Council’s Cabinet approves a £2.6m funding boost.
Earlier this year, Welsh Government announced an additional £50m of funding for councils across Wales. Caerphilly’s allocation is £2.647m and the Cabinet is proposing to invest the money in improving the highway network, through resurfacing and increased reactive maintenance.
£2.2m will be used for 25 additional resurfacing schemes and £447,000 will be targeted at reactive maintenance to tackle potholes and other repairs.
Cllr Jamie Pritchard, Leader of Caerphilly Council said,
“We want to plough this additional funding into urgently improving the highway network, because we know that residents are concerned about the condition of some local roads. We are listening to feedback from the community and delivering positive change. This is something that we, as a Cabinet, are committed to doing across all parts of the Caerphilly county borough.”
This new £2.6m funding boost is in addition to the £4million which has already been allocated for resurfacing in the council’s 2026/27 budget. The £4m is made up of £1.6m capital and revenue investment and £2.4m of WG Local Government Borrowing Initiative.
