Umovity has announced that Econolite’s next-generation detection solution, EPIQ RADAR™, has received European Union certification. Following its successful deployment across North America and pilot projects in Europe, the advanced radar-based system is now available to municipalities and road authorities throughout Europe, helping modernize traffic management, improve safety, and support more sustainable mobility.
Since 1933, Econolite remains a leader in delivering mobility operating systems across North America, supporting more than 500 transportation agencies with industry-leading connected vehicle-ready traffic controllers, Centracs® Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) software, multi-tasking smart sensors, and intelligent infrastructure solutions.
EPIQ RADAR combines long-range FMCW radar technology with a built-in HD camera for visual validation, enabling highly accurate detection, classification, and trajectory of vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists under virtually all weather and lighting conditions. Capable of monitoring multiple approaches up to 275 meters (900 feet), EPIQ RADAR is designed cover most intersections with just two sensors. The system supports adaptive traffic signal control, multimodal priority strategies, and safety countermeasure applications such as dilemma zone protection and red-light running mitigation.
“European cities are increasingly looking for intelligent infrastructure that enables safer, more efficient, and more sustainable mobility,” said Andy Myers, CEO of Umovity. “By bringing EPIQ RADAR to Europe, we are expanding the range of technologies available to our customers by combining the strengths of Econolite’s proven roadside infrastructure solutions with PTV’s software expertise. This is another important step in delivering truly integrated mobility.”
Customers can now combine Econolite’s advanced detection technology with PTV’s traffic engineering, simulation, and planning software to create integrated solutions that deliver the mobility intelligence to actively optimize transportation. It also reflects Umovity’s commitment to leveraging the core strengths of each company that incorporate hardware, software, and consulting into a comprehensive mobility operating system.
