A Blackpool resident has claimed that work carried out to fix potholes on his street has left it in a poorer condition.
Kristian Perry, of Halton Gardens in Marton, said the road now floods during rain showers, when it didn’t previously, because of debris left behind in the drain gullies and that there are no road markings on the street, creating a potential safety issue, according to Lancs Live.
The claims seem to be counter to the authority’s previously exemplary record of repairing its damaged roads. Former Transport Secretary Louise Haigh had been complementary about the Council’s pothole repair scheme, and the Sunday Times reported that Blackpool had at one point mended all 2,628 potholes that had been reported last year
However, Mr Perry said the quality of the finished road surfacing is not as good as it was previously and that workmen left lumps of tarmac on the pavement, although these have since been removed.
He said:
“It’s great we now have a road with no potholes but as a neighbourhood it seems we’re in a far worse position now than before due to the works completed by Bethell and Blackpool Council.
“The works were completed over two weeks ago yet the gulleys are still full and blocked with debris to the point at which the road now floods during rainfall. I raised this as a serious concern and knew if would get left – and it has been.
“The new road surface has bitumen deposits spilled on it, leaving it lumpy and unsightly. There were loose tarmac deposits all over the footpath from the initial removals., although site manager called around and apologised for that.”
Debris left in the drain gullies has led to flooding
Mr Perry added: “I don’t like to complain after an effort was made to solve the potholes but the quality of the work and the way they have gone about it is poor.”
