Hereford’s new transport hub is set to open at the end of October after reaching a major milestone. The £10 million project is now 75 per cent complete and progressing towards its launch. The new hub will provide a modern arrival point for Hereford, bringing together public transport and active travel facilities in a single location, according to the Hereford Times.
An enclosed waiting area, improved bus infrastructure, covered cycle parking, pedestrian spaces, green areas, and a new café will all be included as part of the plans.
Councillor Philip Price, Cabinet Member for Transport and Infrastructure, said:
“We are making good progress on the new Transport Hub and it is exciting to see it taking shape. With around three-quarters of the work now complete, people can clearly see the scale and quality of what is being delivered.
“The central Hub structure is now in place, and work is continuing inside and around the site so it will be ready for opening later this year.”
External cladding is complete, the central hub structure is in place, and progress is ongoing on the internal fit-out. Work on the welfare building is also nearing completion.
The access roads have been surfaced, and the bus area is expected to be ready for rail replacement services in July. A planting scheme is also underway in front of the building.
The hub is part of the wider £20.5 million Improving Transport in Hereford programme, funded by the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund.
This programme also includes active travel work at Holme Lacy Road, recent improvements to the Great Western Way, and the proposed first phase of the Hereford Bypass.
