Q-Free has been awarded a key contract by Ferde, one of Norway’s leading toll road operators, to replace roadside tolling infrastructure at six tolling stations across western Norway. The project covers the replacement of roadside systems at selected toll stations in Førde and on Bømlo.

The scope of the project includes delivery, installation, and the commissioning of new Q-Free roadside equipment, as well as the dismantling of existing installations and structural upgrades to ensure long-term operational stability.

“Ferde looks forward to continuing the cooperation with Q-Free in the replacement of these toll stations. This is an important delivery for us, ensuring reliable and high-quality performance throughout the lifecycle,” says Tor Hilmar Stavang, CTO at Ferde.

The solution is based on Q-Free’s established and proven three-portal gantry architecture and is fully aligned with Norway’s AutoPASS requirements. Q-Free will serve as the main contractor for the project, working in close cooperation with local installation partners. Installation is scheduled for later this year and is expected to be completed within a maximum of two weeks, minimizing disruption to traffic and road users.

“As a Norwegian-based company, this contract is particularly meaningful for Q-Free,” said Mark Talbot, CEO of Q-Free. “I would like to congratulate our team whose expertise, collaboration, and dedication made this award possible. We view this agreement as a strong validation of our technology, our service and our long-term commitment to Norway, the country where Q-Free was founded.”

Under the agreement, Q-Free will own, operate, maintain, and support the roadside infrastructure throughout the contract period. The contract includes performance requirements designed to ensure high levels of accuracy, reliability, and operational up-time, even under Norway’s demanding environmental conditions. Q-Free and Ferde have a long and collaborative history and this award strengthens the company’s position as Norway’s leading provider of tolling solutions. It also reflects growing customer adoption of Q-Free’s recurring-revenue service model, which combines advanced roadside technology with long-term operational support and maintenance.

“Ferde’s decision demonstrates continued confidence in Q-Free’s ability to deliver reliable tolling solutions with rapid deployment and long-term operational excellence,” said Vegard Thomassen, Q-Free Vice President of Norway and Denmark Operations. “We look forward to continuing our partnership and supporting Ferde’s infrastructure objectives for years to come.”

Q-Free has delivered and maintained tolling systems in Norway for decades and today supports a significant share of the country’s roadside tolling infrastructure. The company’s extensive experience operating in harsh Nordic environments enables it to meet demanding performance requirements while maintaining high levels of availability and accuracy throughout the year.
