Birmingham City Council has become the latest local authority to join the National Parking Platform (NPP), marking what the platform’s backers describe as another milestone in the expansion of the initiative designed to make parking payments simpler and more flexible for motorists.

As one of the UK’s largest local authorities, Birmingham’s addition is being described by the NPP as a significant step towards creating a more connected parking experience. The platform allows drivers to pay for parking using the app they already know and trust, rather than having to download a different application for every town or city they visit.

The National Parking Platform was originally developed through a Department for Transport-led programme to create an open marketplace for parking payments. Rather than acting as another parking app, it provides the technology that connects participating local authorities with multiple parking providers, giving motorists greater choice while offering councils a standardised, resilient platform for the future.

Announcing Birmingham’s participation on LinkedIn, the National Parking Platform said: “We’re delighted to welcome Birmingham City Council to the National Parking Platform. As one of the UK’s largest local authorities, Birmingham joining the NPP marks another significant step towards making parking simpler, smarter and more connected for motorists.”
