Over half a million pounds has been awarded to community projects promoting Active and Sustainable Travel across the west of Scotland. Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) has allocated £567,586 to 29 initiatives through its People & Place Programme Community Fund, supported by Transport Scotland.
According to The Herald Scotland programme aims to encourage a long-term shift away from car use by making active and low-carbon travel more accessible.
Funded projects include cycle training, bike storage, bike loan schemes and initiatives designed to improve access to cycling for schools, workplaces and people facing barriers to transport.
The funding will support a range of underrepresented and vulnerable groups, including female prisoners and ex-offenders, people with mental health conditions, individuals with mobility challenges, people recovering from addiction, university students, primary and preschool children and their families, and New Scots.
Stephen Dornan, chairman of Strathclyde Partnership for Transport, said: “This funding ensures the projects can operate effectively and deliver positive outcomes across the region – increasing access to bikes for those who need them most, and expanding opportunities for active, sustainable, and resilient transport for people across the SPT region.”
