Lay-bys on the A404 in Buckinghamshire are to be temporarily shut for maintenance work. The affected lay-bys run between the A404(M) at Junction 9B and the Handy Cross Interchange (M40 Junction 4), says the Bucks Free Press.
National Highways has made the decision to close these lay-bys in the interest of road safety while contractors carry out various maintenance and renewal tasks.
This includes work on the A3, A27, A31, A34, A303, and A404 trunk roads in several counties and unitary authorities and the closures will be in effect 24 hours a day and will remain until the specific maintenance work in each area is completed.
The management of these closures will be handled by Network Availability management, and the restrictions will begin later this week and will remain in effect until 24 December 2027.
The closures will not have specific durations; rather, they will be linked to the completion of the maintenance work on each occasion.
No diversions will be in place, and the temporary closures will be clearly marked by traffic signs when they are in operation.
The aim of these measures is to ensure the safety of both road users and contractors while the work is being carried out.
