Councillors in north Wales have sought clarification over how a proposed £40 million relief road at Llanbedr would be funded, according to a report by Nation.Cymru’s Local Democracy Reporter Dale Spridgeon.

Nation.Cymru reports that members of the North Wales Corporate Joint Committee’s strategic transport sub-committee discussed concerns about the potential implications for other transport projects.

According to the publication, a position statement identifies the Llanbedr improvements as a regional priority, but says construction costs could not be covered by the Regional Transport Fund alone. It puts north Wales’ 2026–27 allocation at approximately £28 million.

Committee chair Councillor David A Bithell reportedly said the need for the scheme was not disputed, while seeking clarification about whether larger projects would receive separate funding.

Nation.Cymru also reports that Councillor Ifor Glyn Lloyd supported the case for improvements, citing summer traffic conditions.

The publication says senior transport officer Adam Graham told members that the Welsh Government had established a group to explore funding options.

Construction funding had not been identified, according to the report. Councillor Bithell proposed inviting the Welsh Government to discuss funding larger schemes alongside other regional priorities.
