Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership has urged drivers to take responsibility for their behaviour after figures showed 44 people died on the county’s roads in the first ten months of 2026.
LincolnshireWorld reports that a partnership spokesperson said: “We cannot continue to ignore our own personal responsibilities to keep both ourselves and others safe by driving appropriately.”
The appeal follows an increase from 26 fatalities between January and October 2025 to 44 during the same period this year, the highest figure since 2020.
According to LincolnshireWorld, the partnership expressed concern that road users remained reluctant to accept messages about personal responsibility, despite repeated safety campaigns.
The spokesperson criticised a tendency to attribute problems to other people or external factors, rather than recognise how individual decisions affect safety.
The partnership also stressed the concentration required when driving and encouraged motorists to avoid distractions, exercise patience and maintain their attention.
While deaths have increased substantially compared with 2025, the partnership acknowledged that last year’s figure was lower than in preceding years.
There were 41 fatalities during the equivalent period in both 2023 and 2024. The partnership highlighted the grief each death brings to families across Lincolnshire.
