A Czech technology company, FUTTEC, will be repairing potholes in a series of live demonstrations on Calderdale’s roads with its microwave repair system, working alongside Calderdale Council highway crews.

FUTTEC uses microwaves to heat the damaged area of the road evenly and in depth, so that fresh hot asphalt merges with the existing pavement and leaves no joint.

The repaired spot is essentially returned to its original condition, with the aim that it lasts for the remaining life of the road. Repairs can be done all year round, including the winter, with minimal disruption. The technology is also preventative and is best suited to early and small defects, fixing them before they grow and extending the life of the road.

The technology is already approved by the Czech Ministry of Transport (technical approval TP-264/2023) and is used by all types of Czech road authorities, including the national Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD), regional road administrations and Prague’s TSK.

In Calderdale next week, three days of work are panned, starting with a technical introduction for the council on Monday 9 November, followed by two days of live repairs at three different sites across the region, with council highway crews trying the equipment themselves.

The live demo programme is as follows:

Tuesday 10 November, 8am: Clough Lane, Rastrick, HD6 3QH Repair of a trench near the fire station Afternoon: Dryhouse Lane, Brighouse, HD6 1LQ
Repair of multiple potholes

Wednesday 11 November, 8am: Common Lane, Southowram, HX3 9PA
Repair of multiple potholes.

Crews will be working from 7:30 to 15:00 but the FUTTEC crews will be on site in the mornings only.
