Highways England move to daily payments

Highways England has moved to daily pay runs in order to support the supply chain during the Coronavirus crisis.

Malcolm Dare, Procurement Director at Highways England told suppliers in an email that this would increase the speed of payment to suppliers for correctly invoiced and completed work. He also asked suppliers to use Project Bank Accounts, and to also encourage all their supply chains to use them, in order to support quick payments to all suppliers.

Mr Dare highlighted the Government’s support for continuing construction activity where it can be undertaken in accordance with Public Health England and industry guidance.

He also reported on another update on the Construction Leaders Council’s (CLC) operating guidance for the construction industry. The CLC has said Health and Safety Executive is the enforcing authority for Public Health England guidelines, that each site should monitor the implementation of the procedures required and guidance for those who have no option but to share transport to work. CLC also provides information on the hierarchy of controls which should be implemented to reduce the risk of transmission where social distancing of two metres cannot be achieved.

Mr Dare also urged suppliers to continue to support the #TransportHeroes Campaign on social media.
