Highways England starts the search for contractors for routine and response maintenance in Area 9

Highways England has started the search for contractors to deliver routine and response maintenace in Area 9.

The area includes Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, West Midlands and Worcestershire.

Currently, Kier is the incumbent contractor, after it was awarded a three-year contract in 2018 to support the transition from traditional Asset Support Contracts to a new Asset Delivery model set up to put Highways England in direct control of asset management, maintenance and other services.

Under new plans, the new principal contractor will be appointed for eight years. It is understood that Highways England will take more decisions over maintenance spend and are keen to engage more directly with Tier 2 and 3 contractors as well.

Highways England will be hosting a tender launch event on 11 June 2021 via Microsoft Teams.

Interested firms can request up to three places by email to a forthcoming tender launch event on June 2021 online.
