SVS radar detection solution hailed in Newark

A new detection system installed in the town of Newark in Nottinghamshire is being hailed a success, replacing the previous in-road detection solution.

Smart Video and Sensing says the installation of the Smartmicro UMRR11 detection system on the Lincoln Road covers multiple lanes, and meant there was no need to install conventional MOVA loop detection close to a railway and overhead line equipment.

In a case study, SVS says its costs came in at around £15,000 compared to an estimated cost of £30-35,000 for a loop-based system.

Subjectively, we can say that performance has been very promising based upon the fact that we have received no complaints from the public since the installation of UMRR11’s on this busy junction,” the company says. “It is technology that we will be looking to employ again on larger multi- lane junctions within our region when installing MOVA.”
