Work on the A40 Eynsham park and ride to Wolvercote project in Oxfordshire is now progressing, with vegetation clearance, ecological mitigation and utility diversion works underway ahead of construction.

The £126 million project will enable the Eynsham park and ride to open, deliver new bus lanes, improvements to active travel infrastructure and support delivery of new homes in the area.

Following the granting of planning permission on 30 June 2026, Oxfordshire County Council and their contractor, Balfour Beatty, have conducted a review of the construction programme to take account of the activities required before main construction can begin, including discharging planning conditions, utility diversions and other preparatory works.

It is currently anticipated that enabling works will begin in autumn 2026, with main construction starting in spring 2027. Connecting the park and ride to the A40 remains a priority for the project and this element of the work will be delivered first.

Based on the current programme, the park and ride is expected to open in early summer 2028, with the remainder of the project completed and open by summer 2029.

Councillor Liz Leffman, Cabinet Member for Highways Construction and Repair, said:

“The A40 Eynsham park and ride to Wolvercote project is an important investment in Oxfordshire’s transport network that will enable the Eynsham park and ride to open, provide new bus lanes and improve walking and cycling facilities along the A40 corridor. We know people are keen to see these benefits delivered, and our focus is on progressing the work needed to connect the park and ride to the A40 and bring it into use as soon as possible.”
