The Transport Technology Forum is bringing local authorities together for an interactive webinar designed to help councils share practical experience of delivering electric vehicle charging infrastructure and discuss the challenges they are still working to overcome.

The TTF EV Charging Infrastructure Working Group webinar, “EV Charging Infrastructure: Local Authority Challenges, Solutions and Lessons Learned”, takes place at 11am on Wednesday 30 September and will focus firmly on the issues authorities are dealing with now.

Rather than relying on a series of presentations, the session is being structured around discussion and practical experience, with local authority representatives sharing examples of challenges they have encountered, how they have approached them, what has worked and what they would do differently.

The webinar will cover cross-pavement charging and gully solutions, community charging, commercial and delivery models, LEVI delivery experiences and wider challenges around public charging infrastructure.

There will also be dedicated time for audience questions, giving participants the opportunity to raise their own delivery issues and compare approaches with other authorities.

The webinar continues the EV Charging Infrastructure Working Group’s programme of practical support for councils. The Group has previously produced guidance to help authorities understand the issues involved in delivering on-street charging and procuring charging infrastructure, while its meetings and webinars have explored subjects including public highway challenges, innovative charging solutions, procurement, accessibility, power constraints and cross-pavement charging.

Earlier this year, its “Beyond the Plug” session brought together local authorities, industry, Government and researchers to consider the next phase of public EV charging delivery, including the practical realities councils face as deployment becomes more complex.

“This next webinar will build on the approach of our previous meetings by giving authorities themselves the opportunity to explain what they are learning through implementation and to discuss issues which remain unresolved,” explained Working Group Chair Shamala Gadgil.  “It is aimed at people involved in planning, procuring, delivering or managing EV charging infrastructure within local authorities, offering them an opportunity to hear what other councils are doing and share their own experiences.”
