Tech solution for Dover traffic management installed

A new radar-based detection system to manage lorries heading to the Port of Dover has been installed by detection and sensing company Smart Video and Sensing.

Working with 4Way Consulting and Aone+, SVS designed, installed and validated the virtual corridor in order to reduce congestion and co-ordinate traffic signals on the A20.

The stipulation included installation ahead of Brexit on 31 December.

This project concentrates on operations when the ferryport is operating within capacity because during storms or strikes, for example, traffic management in the town is ineffective. The solution optimises signals, adds virtual MOVA links between sites and adds additional detection at strategic locations assessing the proportion of HGVs heading into the area.

SVS says it used the smartmicro UMRR11 multi-lane radar for the work.
