The Transport Technology Forum is inviting organisations across the sector to contribute photographs and video to support the publication of its Management of Roadside Technology (MRT) guidance that is a major rewrite of the Management of Electronic Traffic Equipment A Code of Practice first published in 2011.
The document is being updated by an editorial group following the Forum’s recent call for industry experts to help shape the new edition. The latest phase of the project is aimed at making the guidance more visual and practical by including real-world examples of roadside technology installations.
“Our editorial group is seeking high-quality images covering a wide range of permanent roadside technologies,” explained co-project lead Steve George. “These need to cover all aspects of roadside technology in use, including technologies we are familiar with such as traffic signals, pedestrian crossings, message signs, detection and monitoring equipment and safety equipment through to new and emerging technologies such as electric vehicle charging infrastructure, communications systems and connected vehicle infrastructure. Basically, if you have an image that you think is relevant to the scope of the MRT, and have the permission to use it, we will look to include it in the MRT document”.
The updated guidance will also cover topics including data management and security, the Digital Controller Interface Standard (DCIS), Digital Traffic Regulation Orders (D-TRO), Low Emission Zone systems, connected vehicle infrastructure and guidance on contractual procedures and procurement
Short video clips are also being sought for use in the online version of the document, helping to demonstrate equipment in operation.
Contributors are asked to provide high-resolution images, together with a brief description, location where appropriate, and confirmation that the necessary permissions have been obtained for publication. Appropriate image credits will be included.
The MRT guidance covers fixed roadside technology and electronic traffic equipment used on local road networks. It does not include mobile infrastructure, tunnel management systems, motorway-specific infrastructure, tidal flow systems, road user charging systems or railway and tramway interaction, where separate guidance is available or bespoke arrangements apply.
