Profits have increased by almost a third at Nottinghamshire County Council-owned highways company Via East Midlands, as turnover passed £90 million.

The Bilsthorpe-based company recorded pre-tax profits of £906,000 in the year to 31 March 2026, up 31% from £690,000 a year earlier, according to the Business Desk.

Turnover increased by 3.2% from £87.7 million to £90.5million, while employee numbers rose from 714 to 724.

Via is wholly owned by Nottinghamshire County Council and holds an exclusive contract to deliver highways services across the county until 2031.

The business also undertakes work for other public and private sector organisations, with its external contracts generating returns that can be paid back to the council through dividends and reinvestment in Nottinghamshire’s highways.

During the year, Via secured a £6m contract in Derbyshire covering the supply, installation, maintenance and removal of streetlighting assets over the next four years.

It also began work on the A614 improvement scheme after funding was formally confirmed, with initial site clearance starting in early 2026. Work will continue during the current financial year.

The results come after highways emerged as a key issue in Nottinghamshire’s May 2025 local elections, which resulted in a change of political administration at the county council.
