Multi-sector construction and civil engineering projects company Winvic Construction has announced it has handed over its first project under its Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) highways framework contract.
It says the major improvements will accomplish the project’s goals of reducing congestion and improving safety at Boston’s A16/Marsh Lane roundabout and futureproofing the roundabout for upgrades down the line.
Winvic has widened the A16/Marsh Lane roundabout and 3,070 square metres of carriageway on the approaches on the A16 to two lanes. The roundabout has been realigned to facilitate its widening to 27m and 410m of new drainage has been installed as part of the roundabout upgrade. Mass traffic signals infrastructure works at the crossroad junction have also been completed by Winvic, comprising 4,025 square metres of carriageway treatment works.
Furthermore, it says a three-quarter mile active travel route – with widened pavements and a new cycle lane – has been created in Boston, addressing the conflict between cycle users and HGVs on Marsh Lane through the Riverside Industrial Estate.

Cllr Richard Davies, executive member for highways at LCC, said: “After six months of hard work by the project team, I’m incredibly happy to announce that our improvements to the A16/Marsh Lane roundabout are now complete and that the roundabout is fully re-opened. Both projects have taken a lot of time and effort, with 20,000 workforce hours spent, over a quarter-mile of new drainage installed and over 7,500 tonnes of tarmac, stone and other road-building materials used. The goal of this important ‘Levelling Up’ project was to reduce congestion on the A16, improve safety and future-proof the roundabout for future A16 upgrades down the line. And now that we’ve added an additional northbound lane and a dedicated left-turn lane for those travelling south from Marsh Lane onto the A16, I think we will accomplish this.”
Charlotte Hughes, senior project leader for Lincolnshire County Council, added: “The support provided by the Winvic team throughout the project was of a really high standard. They were quick to respond and supported the team throughout both the design and construction phases, by reviewing proposals, evaluating risks and helping us to deliver a scheme that met the challenging requirements of this project.”
Both projects are funded by a portion of the £20m in ‘Levelling Up’ funding awarded to the county council in October 2021. The remaining funding is being used across three other projects, including improvements to Spalding’s A16/A151 Springfield Roundabout and A16/B1180 Greencell Roundabout.
The Highways Framework ‘General Works’ Lot was awarded to Winvic by Lincolnshire County Council in April 2022. Works to be undertaken by Winvic on A and B class roads in Lincolnshire are likely to include the construction of roundabouts, major highways widening or dualling, bridge construction and service diversions and installation as well as the installation of drainage and street lighting.
