Transport for London has said that roadworks on the A3 between New Malden and Tolworth in the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames are due to last until 22 July. One lane is closed off heading Southbound for barrier repairs following an accident.
But TfL says the closure will remain in place for two months, according to Radio Jackie. Drivers have been reporting delays of over an hour at peak times.
A TfL spokesperson said:
“We’re very sorry for any disruption caused by essential maintenance works at the A3 Tolworth roundabout. The road’s crash barrier was badly damaged following a serious collision and a lane closure southbound and a slip road closure are in place to ensure that the road remains safe for people to use while the repair work is carried out.
“Unfortunately, some of the materials needed for this work to be carried out must be manufactured to order specially for this location, which has led to a delay in repair work beginning. We expect the closures to remain in place until the end of July and we’re working hard to ensure people can continue to travel through the area, including by closely monitoring roads through our 24/7 control centre.”
