The organisers and hosts of next year’s major Intelligent Transport Systems World Congress at Birmingham’s NEC say they’re about to announce their first exhibitors and partners after what’s been described as a very successful week at the ITS European Congress in Istanbul.
More than 15,000 people are expected at the World Congress from 25-29 October 2027 – the first time the United Kingdom has hosted the event since London in 2006.
Representatives of hosts Transport for the West Midlands, alongside the Department for Transport, joined organisers ERITCO – ITS Europe in Istanbul to meet exhibitors and visitors as they shared the latest news about the event.
“It was a very successful week, with an overwhelming amount of interest in being a part of Birmingham ’27,” commented Jordan Cowley, Business Development Executive at TfWM. “We will very soon be ready to announce our first sponsors and exhibitors, but I think it’s fair to say we’re ahead of where we expected to be as we approach 500 days from the event.”
Jasvinder Sidhu, ERTICO’s Commercial Partnerships and Exhibition Lead, added:
“Following a highly successful ITS European Congress in Istanbul, I’m pleased to see a strong wave of bookings and growing sponsorship interest already building for the next ITS European and World Congress taking place in Birmingham in 2027.
“Senior decision-makers from across the mobility, transport, technology, and infrastructure sectors increasingly see Birmingham as the place where the future direction of intelligent transport will be discussed, demonstrated, and shaped.
“The ITS World Congress is the global meeting point for industry leaders, innovators, and policymakers to experience the technologies driving safer, cleaner, and more efficient transport systems. What’s clear from the conversations in Istanbul is that organisations want to be part of the partnerships, investment opportunities, and strategic discussions. Those not present risk watching the future of mobility being shaped without them.”
This year’s ITS World Congress takes place in October in Gangneung, Korea. Representatives from that event met a team from the UK’s planning committee in Istanbul, and all agreed to pursue closer co-operation. The meeting discussed practical matters around content, promotion and participation, with the UK team detailing its intention to send a high-level delegation, while the issues of road safety, data standards and cyber security were agreed to be key subjects.
The UK delegation agreed that the meeting was very positive, and this will begin a close working relationship during planning both Congresses, and likely to lead to them leaving a lasting legacy.
