The organisers of next year’s major ITS World Congress in Birmingham, ERTICO – ITS Europe, has taken the message about the event to tens of thousands of transport professionals around the world, with a newsletter highlighting the scale of the event and the opportunities to get involved.

ERTICO has used its latest communication to underline the significance of the event, which takes place at the National Exhibition Centre from 25-29 October 2027. More than 15,000 transport professionals from over 100 countries are expected to attend, bringing together decision-makers, innovators, researchers and transport leaders from across the mobility sector.

Under the banner “Connect ideas. Transform Transport.”, the organisation promises the event will give an opportunity to showcase expertise to the international ITS community, while delegates will be able to discover technologies already making an impact, meet experts and policymakers from around the world and develop business relationships which continue beyond the Congress.

The newsletter also highlights the four main topics which will shape the Congress programme: Trustworthy and Resilient Systems; Next-generation ITS; Connected and Integrated Services; and Deploying ITS at Scale. The Call for Contributions opens from 22 October to 22 January, giving researchers, practitioners and industry experts the opportunity to put forward their work for inclusion in the programme.

ERTICO has also shared messages of support from across the global ITS community, including the European Commission, ITS America and ITS Asia-Pacific, alongside West Midlands Mayor Richard Parker. ERTICO CEO Joost Vantomme says that, as the Congress returns to the UK for the first time in more than two decades, he is looking forward to welcoming the ITS community to Birmingham and “working together to turn the very best ITS ideas into transport and mobility solutions that benefit people and communities everywhere.”

Attention is also turning to the exhibition, which will provide more than 25,000 square metres of space and is expected to feature more than 350 exhibitors and co-exhibitors. ERTICO says organisations will be able to demonstrate technology, meet potential customers and partners, engage with public authorities and position themselves in front of an international audience. Commercial Partnership opportunities are also available for organisations seeking a wider profile through sponsorship, thought leadership and networking.

Companies, local authorities, academics, innovators and transport professionals are being encouraged to start planning their involvement now – whether by exhibiting, becoming a commercial partner, contributing to the programme or taking advantage of the growing range of opportunities to showcase UK transport innovation.

The ITS World Congress 2027 takes place at the NEC Birmingham from 25-29 October 2027.  Read the full newsletter and find out how to get involved here.
