CitySwift, the data operating layer for bus networks, has announced its first real-time product in its operations management ecosystem to give a live, network-wide view of every vehicle.
The new capability analyses live network performance, predicts how delays will impact all of the vehicle’s future trips, and prioritises the interventions controllers should make to improve performance across the network.
Controllers spend much of their time working out which buses need attention. Their tools show where each bus is now, but the decision depends on something they can’t see: how late that bus will be when it finishes its current trip and is due out again. By the time a delay shows up on a map, it has often already spread to the next trip, the driver’s changeover and the passengers waiting further down the route.
CitySwift’s decision support gives controllers that forward view. The buses most at risk are ranked first, so teams can decide quickly to make the right interventions especially at peak times whether to send a spare vehicle, cover the next journey, or warn passengers in advance.

This solution is built on the same models behind CitySwift’s platform, which reflect how driver behaviour, layover, recovery time and traffic shape service on each route. Because the capability links into CitySwift’s wider platform, controllers can also see when a late departure is part of a recurring pattern, so it can be fixed at the source rather than covered by adding running time and vehicles to the timetable.
Speaking on today’s announcement, Gearoid Hynes, VP of Product at CitySwift, said:
“When our team looked at the intelligence and algorithms behind our existing products, it became clear that this logic could apply to real-time. We understand driver behaviour, what happens during layover and recovery time, and how one delay moves through a block. This new offering picks up emerging trends as they form and makes recommendations, so controllers can act before a problem reaches passengers.”
