These accredited official statistics inform the allocations of the Department’s Highways Maintenance funding and are used as in the calculation of other statistical series including road traffic, road congestion and road safety statistics.
Road Congestion Statistics
Road congestion and travel time statistics estimate the average speed and delay on the Strategic Road Network and local ‘A’ roads. The GPS and Origin/Destination data used to calculate the local ‘A’ road data is shared freely with crown bodies, local authorities and transport executives quarterly. The team have also looked at accelerometer data and will start to be looking at the estimated levels of emissions and the level of EV battery usage/frequency of charging on a trip level basis.
