Europe’s connected road future up for debate on busy UK Pavilion

A high-level panel discussion about the future of connected vehicle services across Europe will take centre stage on the UK Pavilion at next week’s ITS European Congress, alongside the showcasing of leading British SMEs and the promotion of next year’s ITS World Congress at Birmingham’s NEC.

The Transport Technology Forum is delivering the Pavilion, as it has done at previous European Congresses in Lisbon and Seville, as well as the ITS World Congress in Dubai, and is planning a series of meetings on the Pavilion between 27 and 29 April.  This is in partnership with the Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG), supported by the Department for Transport and Transport for West Midlands, which is hosting next year’s ITS World Congress at Birmingham’s NEC.

Joost Vantomme, the CEO of ERTICO – ITS Europe will join the DfT’s Head of Road Infrastructure Technology, Darren Capes and LCRIG Managing Director Kerry Winstanley to debate “Future Connected Roads” which will discuss the delivery of Europe’s C-ITS regulation, the UK’s plans for the Connected Vehicle Services framework and how the wider public and private sectors can be engaged, plus look at a broader picture on the role of connectivity and data for road authorities and operators, how the industry can share ideas and work together, and what opportunities there will be to do so in Birmingham next year.  The panel discussion takes place at midday on Tuesday 28 April.

A wide variety of technology will be showcased by SMEs Navtech Radar, Agilysis, Clearview Intelligence, Q-Free, AECOM, AGD Systems and MAV Systems who have taken space on the Pavilion along with ITS UK.  These exhibitors will be introduced and interviewed during a special session at 10.30am on Monday which will be recorded for a podcast.

In a busy three days on the stand, there will be a British-themed drinks reception on 2pm on the Tuesday, including the latest updates from senior UK government officials, the stand exhibitors and the team behind Birmingham 2027, all while enjoying a gin, whisky or soft drink.  UK-based keynote speaker Sarah-Jayne Williams, who is Director, Global Product Partnerships – Geo EMEA at Google will also be on the stand for a Q and A session on Tuesday morning.

“There’s always a real buzz around the UK Pavilion at any European or World Congress, and I’m looking forward to our exhibitors and speakers creating the same again in Istanbul,” commented Kerry Winstanley, who has overseen preparation of the Pavilion.  “As the countdown continues towards next year’s World Congress, we’re looking forward to sharing that excitement with the thousands of visitors who’ll flock to the event.”
