Three busy Isle of Wight roads will undergo improvement works over the coming weeks, with overnight closures planned to minimise disruption to motorists. Island Roads has announced resurfacing schemes for St John’s Road Bridge and Marlborough Road in Ryde, as well as the Staplers Road roundabout in Newport, says the Isle of Wight County Press.

The work will take place later this month and in November, with road closures in place between 7.30pm and 6am.

The first scheme will see St John’s Road Bridge closed overnight on Tuesday 27 October to prepare the road for new high-friction surfacing, which will be installed in November.

Work will then move to Staplers Road at the junctions of Long Lane and Godric Road, where crews will reprofile and resurface the road over three nights from 28-30 October.

From Monday 2 November Marlborough Road in Ryde will be resurfaced between Circular Road and Westridge Cross, with work scheduled to take place over six nights.

Island Roads said the schemes involve normal resurfacing rather than deep excavations, allowing the affected roads to reopen during the day. However, motorists have been warned that temporary road surfaces may be in place until the final surfacing is completed.

An Island Roads spokesperson said:

“It is impossible to work on main roads like these without having some local impact, but working at night in October and November will, we hope, minimise the inconvenience. We would like to thank residents, businesses and road users for their understanding during these works.”

Island Roads warned that the programme could change depending on weather conditions or unexpected ground conditions.
