The Chair of the UK’s Intelligent Transport Society, Ryan Hood is committing the organisation will double-down on its commitment to decarbonisation, as he enters his second year in the role.
Hood, who is Head of Digitisation of Transport at TRL, was re-elected at the ITS (UK) Annual General Meeting where he called on the industry to ensure the full value of transport technology is unlocked to support the environmental effort as we approach the major COP26 conference in Glasgow in November.
Hood referred to the Annual Report which has summed up the Society’s achievements over the past year, and updates on the progress of the ten-point ITS (UK) manifesto.
The AGM also saw Karla Jakeman from Innovate UK re-elected as Vice Chair.
Other key positions confirmed were:

- Finance Director: Andrew Pearce, Jacobs
- International Director: Niosha Kayhani, Cubic
- Membership Director: Graeme Scott, IBI Group
- Communications Director: Krishna Desai, Cubic
- Early Careers Director: Abigail Oakley, PA Consulting
These positions are in addition to those which were up for re-election, namely President Steven Norris, Immediate Past Chair Ian Patey of WSP and ITS (UK)’s Ambassador Prof Eric Sampson of Newcastle University.
“I would like to thank all our Council officers for donating their time to share in the running of ITS (UK),” commented Secretary General Jennie Martin. “Our strength is very much that our membership comes from across the industry – public sector, consultancies, solutions providers and academia – and our governance reflects that. I believe we are in a great position to deliver on our manifesto commitments and support the growth of technology to solve transport’s challenges across the UK.”
Meanwhile ITS (UK) members have voted Andy Oakey of the University of Southampton as its new Vice Chair of its Freight Forum. Andy is a leading innovator in freight, and his past research investigating the potential for pavement portering in London resulted in him being awarded the Dissertation of the Year Award by the CILT Logistics Research Network.
“Andy will be a great addition to the management of the Forum,” added Jennie Martin. “This last year has shown how vital the logistics industry is to all of us, from home deliveries to ensuring shops and manufacturing have the goods then need when they need them, and technology is helping to deliver a greener and more efficient freight industry, and Andy will certainly help us share best practice with the industry.”
