The Sales Director of enforcement technology company Jenoptik UK is urging highway authorities and police forces to take a complete approach to red-light enforcement, considering installation, evidence quality and support throughout a system’s operational life.
In a new thought leadership article published on LinkedIn, Nathan Howard warns that red-light running puts vehicles into direct conflict with drivers, cyclists and pedestrians who have permission to proceed.
“Successfully introducing enforcement at a junction involves far more than selecting a camera,” he writes.
He says Jenoptik’s Home Office Type Approved VECTOR SR combines red-light and speed-on-green enforcement without requiring detection equipment cut into the carriageway or physical connections to traffic signals.
The system uses camera monitoring of signal heads and radar vehicle detection, which Mr Howard argues can reduce disruption and simplify deployment.
He explains that overview images, ten-second video clips and independent image-based validation provide evidence of offences and their context.
Mr Howard stresses that schemes must reflect individual junction layouts and safety objectives, with assessment, design, installation and maintenance supporting reliable operation.
He argues that combining technology with delivery expertise and regional support can help authorities introduce targeted enforcement where it can make the greatest difference.
