New plans have been unveiled that would more than double the number of park and ride spaces next to Hindley station in Greater Manchester, increasing from 52 to 111, including accessible parking bays.
The latest proposals reflect feedback gathered from local people during public engagement in September 2025 and set out an updated vision for the site.
Proposals also include new cycle parking and electric vehicle charging points, alongside improved lighting, CCTV, help points and access around the station.
The improvements aim to make travelling to and from the station safer and more convenient, while making it easier for people to use public transport for some or all of their journey.
Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) is inviting residents, passengers and local stakeholders to review the plans and share their views before they are finalised, with a consultation open until midnight on Sunday 11 October.
The travel hub improvements, which are due to begin on site next year, will build on the major investment already being made at Hindley station. Two passenger lifts and a new footbridge are currently being installed, providing step-free access to both platforms for the first time.
These accessibility improvements will make the station easier to use for disabled passengers, older people, people travelling with pushchairs and people carrying heavy luggage. It is also one of 64 Greater Manchester train stations that will join the Bee Network by 2028, enabling seamless and capped travel across buses, trams and trains.

“Hindley is a great example of where we are working to give people in our local communities better access to public transport.
“On top of major investment to make the train station fully accessible, these travel hub plans would more than double the number of park and ride spaces at Hindley station, making it easier for people to connect with their local rail services.
“We want local people and passengers to help shape the travel hub before the plans are finalised, so I encourage everyone to look at the proposals and tell us what they think.”
