The Transport Technology Forum’s Autumn Update is being extended with an additional afternoon alongside ERTICO – ITS Europe, exploring how to overcome barriers to deploying transport technology and build a lasting legacy from the ITS World Congress in Birmingham in 2027.
The joint session, “Enabling quick wins in Transport Technology Deployment”, will take place at IET Austin Court in Birmingham from 1pm to 5pm on Monday 16 November, ahead of the main Autumn Update on Tuesday 17 November.
It will bring together TTF members, academic groups and ERTICO partners to discuss the challenges limiting deployment, funding constraints and practical initiatives to accelerate the introduction of technology across the UK and Europe.
Organisers say decision makers from cities and regions will play a key role, with new approaches to devolution, technology and governance needed to unlock the potential.
They describe the Birmingham ITS World Congress 2027 as a “golden opportunity to accelerate new thinking, provide information exchange and knowledge sharing”.
The main Autumn Update brings together central government, local authorities, suppliers and academia to discuss policy, share practical experience and explore how technology can improve local highway services. Local authority delegate places, including catering and refreshments, are fully funded through private sector support.
This year’s programme will also help delegates prepare submissions for the ITS World Congress 2027. Congress Chief Rapporteur Professor Eric Sampson will explain what assessors look for, including the choice between research and technical papers, structure, writing style, referencing and avoiding commercialism.
Private sector exhibitors can now extend their packages to cover both the ERTICO afternoon on 16 November and the full Autumn Update on 17 November. Extended packages include two places per exhibitor at the Local Authority dinner with TTF and ERTICO.
Ahead of the joint session, participants are being invited to complete a short questionnaire to help shape panels and workshops around real-world deployment challenges.
Delegate registration is available here, while details of private sector attendance, sponsorship and exhibition packages are available on the TTF website.
The ERTICO afternoon will be followed by a Local Authority dinner at Birmingham’s Hyatt Hotel. Accommodation at the hotel is also being provided for public sector attendees on the evening of 16 November, ahead of the following day’s Update.
