Leading transport technology organisations from the UK and across Europe will come together at next month’s ITS World Congress in the Korean city of Gangneung to demonstrate their expertise, develop international partnerships and invite the global ITS community to the following year’s Congress at Birmingham’s NEC.
The UK and ERTICO – ITS Europe Pavilion, delivered through a partnership between the UK Government, Transport for West Midlands and ERTICO, will give Congress visitors a focal point at which to discover technologies, expertise and opportunities from across the UK and Europe.
Zenzic, AGD, Podaris, Q-Free and ITS UK will be represented in the UK section of the Pavilion. Together, they will highlight British expertise spanning connected and automated mobility, intelligent transport infrastructure, transport planning and digital mobility solutions. There will also be a significant delegation from the Department for Transport, promoting Birmingham 2027 alongside the UK’s wider ITS capabilities and related policies, while learning about new techniques from around the world.
These organisations will be joined on the European side by the CAR 2 CAR Communication Consortium, representatives from Ireland’s Department of Transport, TamData/Deltablock and Aumovio, alongside ITS South Africa and a prominent ERTICO and Birmingham 2027 presence.
“The range of organisations represented will make the Pavilion more than a shared exhibition space,” commented ERTICO CEO Joost Vantomme. “It will bring together companies, membership bodies and international partners working on some of transport’s most pressing challenges, from improving road safety and network efficiency to connecting vehicles and infrastructure and making better use of transport data.”
For visitors, it will offer an opportunity to see complementary technologies and expertise in one place, meet the people behind them and explore how different solutions could be applied across cities, regions and national transport networks. For the participating organisations, it will provide a platform to forge partnerships, reach new markets and help shape the international conversation about the future of mobility.
The Pavilion will also provide a major showcase for the next ITS World Congress, taking place at Birmingham’s NEC from 25–29 October 2027.
Throughout the week in Gangneung, the Birmingham team will explain how businesses, governments, transport authorities, researchers and innovators can participate in the 2027 event by exhibiting, sponsoring, speaking, demonstrating technology or attending as delegates.
“Birmingham 2027 will bring the ITS World Congress back to the UK for the first time since London hosted it in 2006,” added Jo Field OBE, Silver Commander for the hosts’ planning of the event. “Its location at the heart of the country will enable the international ITS community to experience the West Midlands’ transport innovation first-hand while discussing how technology can create safer, cleaner, more efficient and more accessible journeys around the world.”
The presence of UK organisations in Gangneung will support that invitation by demonstrating the strength and diversity of the country’s ITS sector. Their participation will give international visitors a taste of the technologies, ideas and potential partners they can expect to encounter when the industry meets in Birmingham the following year.
The Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) is supporting the UK presence in Korea. Its Managing Director, Kerry Winstanley, said: “The ITS World Congress is where the international transport community comes together to exchange ideas, find partners and discover solutions that can make a genuine difference to people’s journeys.
“The organisations represented on the UK-Europe Pavilion demonstrate the depth of expertise that exists across the UK and Europe. Visitors will be able to meet innovators working across several important areas of intelligent transport and explore how their knowledge and technology could support transport networks around the world.
“LCRIG is also working alongside Transport for West Midlands to lead the UK preparations for Birmingham 2027. Everyone participating in the Pavilion will help us invite the world to the UK and show why the next ITS World Congress will be an event that businesses, governments, local authorities and transport professionals cannot afford to miss.”
The Pavilion builds on a successful model used at previous ITS World and European Congresses, creating a coordinated international presence through which organisations can increase their visibility, make valuable connections and identify new opportunities for collaboration.
The ITS World Congress 2026 takes place in Gangneung, South Korea, from 19–23 October 2026.
The 33rd ITS World Congress will then be held at Birmingham’s NEC from 25–29 October 2027. It is organised by ERTICO – ITS Europe and hosted by Transport for West Midlands with the support of the Department for Transport.
