The collapsed section of the A470 in Powys has been fixed, according to Traffic Wales.
The A470 near Talerddig has been undergoing a long term repair work after a section of retaining wall collapsed leading to disruption in the area for over a year.
A large hole appeared on the edge of the carriageway in November 2023 after heavy rain lead to a retaining wall above a waterway crumbling, says the Powys County Times.
After this emergency repairs were undertaken before a long-term fix was begun at the beginning of the year. The works were originally scheduled for October 2024, but were delayed as a result of the fatal rail collision on the Cambrian railway line in October.
However, Traffic Wales has confirmed that the work is now complete and the road should return to normal for the first time in 18 months.
In a post on social media a spokesperson for Traffic Wales said: “We’re pleased to say that the five-month project to replace retaining wall at Talerddig has now been completed. We’d like to thank @jonesbrosUK for delivering the scheme.
“This project will ensure the resilience of the vital A470 north – south link for years to come by reducing the need for unplanned maintenance.
“We appreciate the patience of the local residents & those affected by the lengthy diversion route while the road was closed.”
