Apple cuts 600 jobs from self-driving team

Apple has cut more than 600 jobs after apparently dropping its self-driving car plans.

The news agency Bloomberg says the majority of the cuts come from the address of the site which was working on the recently abandoned self-driving car project in California.

The BBC adds that the state’s employment department was notified on 28 March that 614 staff will be laid off in May.

It adds that in May last year, Apple boss Tim Cook told CNBC, external that layoffs would be a “last resort”.
