BMW admits driverless design “difficult”

The top designer at German car maker BMW has admitted that designing driverless vehicles is “a new problem” with the sensors having a “huge impact” on design.

Domagoj Dukec told Digital Trends placing the Lidar behind the twin kidney radiator grills is doable for a Level 3 vehicle, but things get harder with Level 4.

Integrating 360-view sensors will be tough, with both cost and aesthetics an issue. “Are customers willing to pay and to compromise on exterior design… we don’t know yet.”
