BMW committing to build electric Mini in Oxford

BMW is to build thousands of electric Mini vehicles at its Cowley plant in Oxford after securing funding from the taxpayer.

Various media outlets report the announcement will come after funding £75 million of funding from the government’s Automotive Transformation Fund was confirmed.

BMW is understood to be spending around £600 million upgrading its site.

Work will also take place at another factory in Swindon.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called this “another shining example of how the UK is the best place to build cars of the future”.
