Calls for people in Medway to be spared LTC charge

People living in the Medway area of Kent should be exempt from paying tolls on the new Lower Thames Crossing, according to a group of councillors.

KentOnline reports that the Labour and Co-op group on Medway Borough Council have submitted the idea as part of the consultation into the new tunnel east of the Dartford Crossing.

Like with Dartford, some people will get a reduced toll charge, but at the moment this is only earmarked for Gravesham residents.

The councillors also called for more road capacity south of the crossing, fearing the LTC will exacerbate congestion. They have, however, welcomed plans to reduce the environmental impact of the scheme.
