The Lower Thames Crossing could help unlock thousands of employment opportunities for local people, according to Thurrock Council leader Richard Bingley, who has called for greater investment in skills to ensure residents benefit from major infrastructure projects.

Speaking after the launch of the new Thurrock Business Board, Mr Bingley identified the crossing, alongside the borough’s ports and logistics sector, as key drivers of future economic growth.

He said the challenge was to ensure local people had the skills needed to access the jobs and career opportunities created by investment.

“As investment continues across Thurrock, we must ensure local people are able to benefit from the opportunities being created,” he said.

The new business board brings together employers, education providers and other organisations to support economic growth, attract investment and improve access to employment.

Mr Bingley said Thurrock’s established role in national trade and logistics, combined with major developments such as the Lower Thames Crossing, offered significant potential to create high-quality jobs.

He added that the borough’s emerging Local Plan would also help shape future housing, infrastructure and employment development.
