Westmorland Farmshop & Co, the family-owned business behind Tebay Services and Gloucester Services, has secured an eight-figure funding package from HSBC UK to support the development of Tatton Services, a new motorway service area coming to the M56 in Cheshire.

The funding will support the construction of the £65m development, located between Junctions 7 and 8 near Millington and Rostherne, with the site set to open in spring 2028.

Construction has now begun, with the development expected to bring 558 jobs during the build phase, and 325 permanent roles once open. The site is forecast to attract four million customers per year and generate an annual turnover of £36 million.

The development, which is expected to work with 130 local suppliers and contribute at least £100,000 each year to community initiatives, is an 80/20 partnership between Westmorland and the Tatton Estate to invest long-term in the region’s local food, economy and people.

Neil Austin, Chief Financial Officer at Westmorland, said:

“Securing this funding package marks a major milestone for the Tatton Services development and demonstrates confidence in our long-term vision for sustainable growth.

“This investment from HSBC UK allows us to deliver a landmark scheme that will serve motorway users, whilst creating meaningful opportunities for local people and suppliers across Cheshire.”

Stuart McLaren, Relationship Manager at HSBC UK, added:

Westmorland has an outstanding track record in creating distinctive service destinations, underpinned by a clear commitment to quality and regional impact. The business’s strong social values align closely with our ambition to help communities thrive.

“This investment is expected to create substantial employment opportunities in the region and deliver lasting economic benefits, while maintaining the high standards and customer experience Westmorland is known for.”
