Iteris and Vizzion have announced that North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is leveraging the US’s first state-wide deployment of ClearGuide® Dash Cam Imagery informed by Vizzion’s Drives service.
ClearGuide® mobility analytics platform provides transportation agencies with real-time tools for traffic operations and now integrates real-time and historical on-vehicle imagery directly into traffic management workflows for faster visual verification and improved situational awareness. NCDOT officially signed on as the first U.S. state agency to leverage dashcam imagery in ClearGuide, utilizing dashcam data to supplement the visualization and analysis of probe speed data and real-time arrow board locations in this analytics solution.
The integration embeds Vizzion’s Drives service directly into the ClearGuide interface. Vizzion has one frame per second imagery available from a growing network of tens of thousands of connected dash cameras on commercial vehicles. While many traditional Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) rely on fixed roadside cameras, NCDOT is paving the way with access to a new mobile sensor network on vehicles driving about 3 million miles per day, including about 900 vehicles driving over 100,000 total miles per day in North Carolina. This approach is helping to improve situational awareness for the lane statuses of roads to improve dispatch, incident clearance and traveler information across the state.
ClearGuide users at NCDOT can see available dashcam coverage in an intuitive map interface and select specific imagery to view real-time conditions. With this feature, North American agencies benefit from ground-truth evidence without sending staff out on the roadways. With street level view of traffic conditions, weather impact, road work, flagging, and incident context, dashcam insights delivered in ClearGuide are at a fraction of the cost that physical infrastructure investments would require.
