JCT Traffic Signals Symposium offers new networking opportunity

The popular JCT Traffic Signals Symposium is offering industry professionals a new way to meet and network with colleagues by offering tickets to its gala dinner without expecting people to also attend the Symposium itself.

The gala dinner, sponsored by Yunex Traffic, is a key part of the event each September and this year takes place in a new “plush” location – the Queens Hotel in Leeds where the Symposium’s 30th running will be “celebrated in style”.

Tickets to the dinner are usually only available to delegates or exhibitors, but organiser John Nightingale, a Director at JCT Consultancy, says his idea is to enable those who can’t make the event to still benefit from time with some of the most important and leading experts in the signals and traffic management industry.

“We have upwards of 250 of the sector’s finest experts in one place for two days and nights, but others simply can’t spare the time to join us, or may be in a related sector where the subject matter isn’t really for them, but the clientele is,” he explained.  “So we’ve decided to offer people the chance to join us for the networking so they can benefit from a bit of the JCT Symposium magic.”

Tickets for the gala dinner to non-Symposium attendees has been set at £100, and a limited number are on sale, so industry leaders are encouraged to sign up quickly to avoid disappointment.

“Attending dinners is a key part of business, so we also thought it’d be a way for companies to introduce their young professionals to this sort of event, without it being too stuffy and formal,” Mr Nightingale continued.  “But in our new plush location of the Queens Hotel, we did think it’d be a good excuse to dress up, so we’ll be going for business attire or even black tie if you fancy it, on the night.  We think the £100 ticket will be very popular, particularly as people can find themselves paying three times that for similar dinners which, unlike ours, don’t even include all-inclusive food and drink.”

The gala dinner ticket also includes an invitation to the SWARCO welcome drinks reception.

This year’s JCT Traffic Signals Symposium on 24 and 25 September features two days of academic presentations alongside the exhibition and the two evening networking events.  Telent are sponsoring the Tuesday evening social, as the Symposium takes over the nearby Adelphi pub for the night.  A number of other companies are signing up to cover the bar tab each night.

The Symposium Learned Papers Programme is now full and exhibition stands are selling well. In addition, the MOVA Users Group, which runs contiguous to the Symposium still has a limited number of speaking slots available for MOVA practitioners to share their projects. To submit a proposal simply email JCT with a working title and a one paragraph synopsis. The MOVA Users Group is free to attend and regularly attracts a 100+ audience of MOVA practitioners.  A combined booking can be made for both events.

You can watch last September’s Symposium from Nottingham Trent University here.

Sign up to attend or exhibit at this year’s event through the Symposium website, which also features options to book hotel rooms alongside the main event.
