Much-loved industry figure dies suddenly

Highways News is very sad to share that 30-year industry veteran Rory Poole has passed away after suffering a stroke.

The popular roads and bridges expert died on Sunday “peacefully surrounded by those he loved the most.”

Writing on LinkedIn, his brother Richard wrote: “You will all know that Rory was generous, funny and larger than life in everything he did. He was proud of the many great engineering projects he worked on and led with Oscar Faber, FaberMaunsell, and AECOM and was greatly looking forward to the Heathrow expansion project he’d just started with MACE.

“I know in all those projects he loved and respected the teams he worked with and from those of you I’ve met I always saw the same feelings returned. He built strong and lasting relationships not just with his colleagues but with his clients and partners too; an awful lot of people are going to miss him an awful lot.

“As well as delivering the work he was entrusted with Rory was always looking to give others a hand and support their career growth and often support them in any other way he could too. That generosity of spirit was there to the end – Rory was on the organ donor list and the doctors found a match, so at least one person has a new lease of life today thanks to Rory.

“If you’re not already on the organ donor list then “do a Rory” today and sign up.”

Richard Poole added that there will be a fitting send off in St Albans, “assuming we can find somewhere big enough”.

The comments on the LinkedIn post from colleagues past and present show what a popular person he was and how he will be missed. You can add your tribute there.
