Police officer sacked for lying about speeding

A police constable’s been sacked without notice after giving a dishonest reason for speeding on the M4.

Police Oracle reports that last August PC Stewart Argyle was driving a police vehicle containing a detainee when he activated a speed camera while driving at 62 mph in a 50 limit.

He claimed that the prisoner had become upset and verbally abusive, so he speeded up to get off the motorway, but then later admitted he was distracted, but had no excuse.

The website says a disciplinary panel found his behaviour amounted to gross misconduct.
