Waymo resumes driverless testing

Google’s driverless car project Waymo is restarting testing, having suspended it in March to protect employees from Coronavirus.

In a blog post on its website it says people in Phoenix, Arizona will see Waymos back on the road

Arizonans will begin to see some Waymo vehicles back on the road, “after careful consideration and active conversations with our teams, partners, and local and state authorities.”

Safety steps include ensuring social distancing in its facilities, new staff health and safety training, increased cleaning and staff health monitoring.

“We’re taking a thoughtful and measured approach towards bringing our driving operations back on the road,” the post says. “We’ll begin driving in other cities in the days and weeks to come, including San Francisco, Detroit, and Los Angeles, and the resumption of our driving operations in these locations will similarly be guided by ensuring the safety and health of our team in line with CDC and state and local guidance.”
