The specialist eCall consultancy and software company VESOS Solutions is combining its passions for motorsport and road safety by supporting industry colleague Olly Samways from in his 1992 Mini Cooper and 1964 Mini Cooper S in historic racing.
Olly started racing at the young age of 10 and has achieved many wins over his recent racing career. Most importantly he is also passionate about road safety and is focussed on the education of young drivers via his initiative ‘Racing 4 Road Safety’.
Olly commented: “My passion for racing combined with a job that I love doing, has resulted in me starting Racing 4 Road Safety, which I have designed to educate motorists on road safety, using the 13 years of knowledge that I have accumulated in this field”.
Andy Graham and Danny Woolard, who are directors of VESOS, explained their support: “We met Olly through business and clearly there was a connection with our shared passion of Motorsport. Given VESOS’s project work and our focus on seeing eCall used as an important data set used for creating low latency alerts for road operations and saving lives on our roads, it was an easy decision to support Olly, we’re proud that this classic Cooper is now carrying the VESOS sticker along with one for Westcotec.”
Olly achieved a win (P1) in Race 2 and fastest lap at the Donington event in the Mighty Mini race in difficult conditions. Olly managed to finish P4 in a very wet race 1 after being spun out from 2nd position halfway through the race. He currently leads the Championship.
eCall automatically raises the alarm in the event of a crash when the airbags are deployed, and it can also be manually activated by the driver or passenger by pressing the eCall SOS button. It has been installed in all newly approved cars and vans across the UK and Europe since 2018. VESOS was founded in 2022 and has won awards for its TeCall platform which filters, enhances, prioritises and forwards eCall incidents that emergency services need, in the form they need, in seconds.
Alongside traditional LED speed limit and warning signs, Westcotec produces specialist devices including Flood Warning, Bridge Height Warning and Collision Avoidance Systems using above ground technology.
